A Little Test…

Music Succubi Movies Disney Kittens

A couple weeks ago Jamie and I went to see Dredg at the Troubadour. Dredg rocked it… super tight, though the vocals were too low in the mix. They played a few new songs (which I was hoping for) and although unpolished, they sounded pretty good. It’s funny to see them all switch to their little side-instruments for all the new songs (with the exception of Mark). I know they like to experiment… but all at once? It was just comical is all. Also, Gavin played guitar on one of the new songs, which is pretty much the beginning of the end (at least in the history of bands I’ve loved). I hope not!

The Tender Succubus show was a huge success, and also very weird – at one point our gallery was overrun by Alayna’s models, dressed as the various succubi from her paintings. I loved Mizna’s pieces, especially her collection of ink drawings. It would be amazing to have the entire collection! Lot of photos from the show…

Heartbreak Kid is terrible, predictable, somewhere in between shocking and tame (which means boring), and unfocused. Bleh…

Surf’s Up is amazing! I remember thinking how generic it looked from the trailer, but we all watched it the other night and it is absolutely awesome. The story is solid and refreshingly simple, the voice acting is perfect (especially Jeff Bridges), and the waves are just spectacular. It pulls off a cliche theme (have fun rather than try to be the best) with heart; this message seemed to be flipped in Ratatouille.

A couple weeks ago I went with Jamie, Clio and Hyoji to Disneyland. It must have been 10-15 years since I’ve been there last. Once I was a teenager, I sort of subconsciously dismissed it as a kid’s park in favor of thrill-ride parks, like Magic Mountain. It totally surprised me! I could appreciate the care and quality of everything – the lands, the design of the rides, the cleanliness, the wonder and magic. There is so much quality craft in the rides, and they are so long! Space Mountain, in particular, was a treat. While we were waiting in line the whole area seemed so nostalgic… I was terrified of the ride when I was little and the line reminded me of trying to escape it (and my brother forcing me to go on). Even the parade was cool. The parade!

My parent’s cat had kittens, and they are adorable.

It doesn’t seem like it from this post, but I feel like I wake up, work until bed time, then repeat. It’s all good work, but it’s not healthy for the soul. At least there are some trips coming up (Japan in December!). There is a new Kotori web site that I feel is slick, and it is the first product of my labor. Stay tuned for the new Nucleus site…

Oh My Tender Succubus

Tomorrow night, demons taking the form of alluring females overtake our little gallery. It’s the Tender Succubus show! Enjoy the art, the refreshments, the amazing twisted dolls and the succubus models. Junko, Mizna and Alayna will all be there, so come say hello! I’ll have a bunch of photos after the show.
